Karin Viard

An actress of wide ranging capabilities, Karin Viard was equally at home doing film, television or theater. She began quite early, traveling from her native Rouen in the Northwestern part of France to Paris when she was just a teenager. She almost immediately found herself studying comedy under the auspices of Vera Gregh and Blanche Salant. By 1986 she starred in two short films that were to open doors for her career, ″La goula″ and ″L'amour en marche. ″ Her role as Mademoiselle Plusse in the dark comedy ″Delicatessen″ (1991) became one of the more talked-about characters in France that year. Viard's acting took on a more dramatic turn in 1999 when she was cast as a pregnant woman with cancer in her award-winning portrayal of Emma in ″Haut les coeurs!,″ which brought her the Cesar, France's highest film award. The next decade was busy for Viard, with more awards to come, films and plays to participate in and a family to raise. Her next big film came in 2011 when she starred in ″Polisse," a crime drama that was a popular hit, followed by thriller "Love is the Perfect Crime" (2013) and the hit comedy "Week-Ends" (2014), a tart social satire.
