Lorelai forgets to tell Rory that she has a date with Rory's teacher Max. Rory has a new crush.

During a wild bachelorette party hosted by Sookie, Lorelai makes an impulsive telephone call to Rory's father, Christopher (recurring guest star DAVID SUTCLIFFE), and sadly realizes that Max is not the man for her. SALLY STRUTHERS ("All in the Family") guest stars.

As Rory's 21st birthday approaches, both Lorelai and Rory are saddened by the fact that their ongoing estrangement will keep them from spending the day as they had planned.

Emily throws an elegant birthday party for an embarrassed Rory, who blows up at her grandmother; Rory later invites her grandparents to a wild party.
