Pertti "Pera" Järvelä is a small-time hustler who avoids honest work. This divorced man lives with two musician buddies in a shared apartment. Pera's daughter, a 17-year-old figure skater competing at the world championship level, is about to leave for a competition trip to Canada. The girl's mother refuses to pay for the expensive trip and demands that Pera cover the cost. The sum is too large to scrape together through petty scams, so Pera has no choice but to get a real job. He finds work at an import company run by Seppo Sillantaus, a Jehovah's Witness and an honest, good-hearted man. Soon Pera also meets the love of his life, and things finally seem to be normalizing. But then an opportunity for a large-scale match-fixing scheme presents itself. Pera can't fight his nature, and together with his roommates, he sets out to chase the dream of the ultimate "jackpot."
