Frédérick Pelletier

Quebec-born Frédérick Pelletier studied Fine Arts before deciding to attend Montreal's Concordia University, where he graduated with a degree in Film Production. Upon graduation he continued his connection to film through his involvement in the Quebec French language film arts site Hors Champ, where he was both co-editor and film critic. His interest in the history of film grew during his stint at the historic Cinémathèque Québécoise, a film conservatory in Montreal. Around the same time he began to work with the National Film Board of Canada, where he filmed a series of short documentaries that included "L'hiver longtemps" (2005). Pelletier took on both the producer role and the director's chair for "L'air de rien" (2006), a stark short documentary that was followed by two experimental comedic shorts for Canada's Bravo TV network. He made his feature debut with "Diego Star" (2013), a dark and quiet film about a cargo vessel marooned in Quebec's St. Lawrence River, and the ship mechanic Traore (Isaka Sawadogo) from the Ivory Coast who finds himself stranded in a small Quebec village while the ship undergoes repairs.
