Daughters of Fire

In 1609, in the Basque country, Jeannette, the eldest of three sisters, refuses to follow in their mother's footsteps as a healer. Their world is on the brink of collapse when Judge Pierre de Lancre arrives on a mission from the king to hunt down witches.

After the wedding at Urtubie castle, the judge at Lancre launches a witch-hunt throughout the region to find Gratianne's accomplices. Jeannette, accused of witchcraft, narrowly escapes torture.

De Lancre conducts a series of trials, determined to find the person responsible for the murder of the soldier found in the forest. To survive, Jeannette and Catherine find new allies in the village and at the château.

Judge de Lancre is prepared to do anything to discover the location of the Akelarre, while Jeannette, finally accepting her gift, organises the preparations in secret. Freed from D'Urtubie's assaults, Catherine resolves to declare her feelings for Madeleine.

After condemning the women captured at Akelarre to the stake, de Lancre sends guards into the houses of the village to keep an eye on each inhabitant. Cariel began his scientific experiments on the prisoners.

Jeannette wakes up on Cariel's operating table and manages to escape from the laboratory thanks to a mutiny of soldiers led by Zéphyr. They are joined by the men from the village who have returned to the Basque country, led by Catherine.
