S1, E2: Since Lord and Lady Montdore cannot stop Polly's wedding to Boy Dugdale, they cut her off without a penny. Linda meanwhile is throwing herself into Christian's work and the Communist cause. Polly returns to have her baby, but her marriage to Boy is not happy. When her baby dies, her old friend Lord Paddington comes to the rescue. Linda meanwhile realises that Christian is more interested in the cause than her, so she leaves and meets Fabrice, the Duc de Sauveterre on her journey home. They have a year of bliss before the Germans march into Paris, and Linda is forced to return to London.
