S1, E3: Nicci's on a press campaign. Initially uncertain, her confidence grows. Her team ask for evidence Samantha's judgement may be flawed but Nicci's hesitant. At hospital, she bumps into Andrew. He hangs back: there's no place for him now. A younger Katie prepares for her birthday. She doesn't want Marnie there, offending her parents. Later, when a boy tries to kiss her, she brushes him off. Our present-day Katie visits Andrew. Andrew's a mess. Katie challenges him, leaving when he tries to argue. Speaking to Greg, Marnie's representative, Andrew makes his decision regarding Marnie's care. After Katie's birthday, Marnie goes woozy, and they rush her to hospital. As they wait, Katie feels guilty. Then, Samantha accidentally perforates an artery. Andrew drinks alone, leaving Nicci rambling voicemails about missing her and the family. Katie also lets loose, getting high with Hannah. However, when she spots Hannah selling Marnie's pills, they argue. Hannah leaves Katie wasted - and alone. A photo of Katie at the rave circulates online. Nicci calls Andrew, who's seen it, then confronts Hannah, who snaps: Nicci doesn't know anything - doesn't even know Katie's gay. Nicci finds Katie, who rejects her belated attempt to mother her. Andrew is home and it's awkward but tender. Nicci says she wishes he was fighting with them. Brenda visits Nicci to discuss Katie. Instead, Nicci tells her about Samantha perforating Marnie's artery. We jump to the court case; there's no going back.
