S7, E2: Helen Mirren reprises her iconic role as the formidable DS Jane Tennison in the seventh series of this crime drama. She is joined by Stephen Tompkinson, Robert Pugh and Tom Bell. Retirement looms for Tennison, but as her exemplary career heads toward its inevitable conclusion she is paying dearly for 35 years of repressed rage and loneliness. When the body of missing schoolgirl Sallie Sturdy is discovered on heathland, the hunt for her killer begins. As Tennison and her team work to identify their prime suspect, the emotional fallout from the brutal murder starts to take its toll on the world weary detective. Tennison is not only dealing very privately with the imminent death of her father, but also an addiction to alcohol which she is desperately trying to hide. As the pressure mounts to secure a conviction, the cracks begin to show.
