S1, E2: A younger Marnie bonds with a boy, George, who wants to ask her out. Nicci worries, but Kathy, his mum, insists the kids should live while they can. An ethics committee agrees that treatment should cease. Nicci's furious, calling Andrew out on his silence. He snaps: she didn't leave any space for him. Nicci remembers getting Marnie ready for her date: a happier time. At her concert, Katie slips Hannah Marnie's pills. As it begins, Nicci's phone rings. She and Andrew race to the hospital, where Marnie is having a seizure. Nicci clings to anything she can but Andrew's adrift. At home, Katie says she's fine they missed her performance, but Hannah says she's allowed to be angry. The mediator visits. Andrew is willing to listen but Nicci is not. Andrew visits his half-brother, Tom, who has Asperger's, and opens up: he's realising he needs to let Marnie go. Brenda, from a Christian group, offers their support. Nicci and Andrew argue and he finally says they should consider withdrawing treatment. Shocked, Nicci lashes out but then begs him to stand by her. Andrew, however, walks away. They tell a younger Marnie George has passed away. She cries, saying she doesn't want to die, which hits Nicci hard. Nicci visits Kathy, who is wracked with guilt; maybe she followed doctors' advice too readily. Nicci partners with the Christian group. She's ready to fight - even if that means going public.
