Wild-Wind’s Secret

S5, E17: Rainbow warns Yakari that for two moons, small quantities of dried meat have been disappearing regularly from the supplies tepee. Yakari keeps lookout and discovers that the thief is Wild-Wind. Yakari and Little-Thunder secretly follow him to watch what he does with the meat, and find out he is taming a fox called White-Tail in the forest. Yakari tries to tell the young papoose that a wild animal must be able to hunt its own food to survive, and that making the fox reliant on him is a curse rather than a blessing. But Wild-Wind thinks Yakari is jealous of his friendship with the fox, and only when a lynx creeps up on his new companion and threatens his life does he realize the gravity of the situation. Wild-Wind finally bids the fox farewell, for his own good.
