Capone
A once-powerful and feared gangland legend ricochets between present and past in Capone, inspired by the last days of Al Capone. After serving 11 years in prison for tax evasion, notorious mobster Alphonse “Al” Capone (Tom Hardy) — known to friends and relatives as Fonzo — returns to a luxurious life with his wife Mae (Linda Cardellini) and extended family at their lavish Florida estate. Capone once ruled Chicago’s rackets with an iron fist and a gold-plated Tommy gun, and masterminded the notorious St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. But after a decade of imprisonment, the former Public Enemy No. 1 suffers from advancing dementia caused by untreated syphilis. Soon the infamous and fearsome “Scarface” has to be fed by a nurse and is forced to sell off his prized art collection to stay afloat financially. Haunted by memories of the men he murdered, the women he bedded, and the losses and betrayals that shaped his life, Capone begins to lose his grip on reality. As he slips into a hallucinatory dream world that mirrors his violent career, he is increasingly a danger to himself and everyone around him. Meanwhile, just outside the opulent compound’s iron gates, FBI Special Agent Crawford (Jack Lowden) keeps Capone under constant surveillance, certain that his bizarre behaviour is all an act and he will soon reveal the whereabouts of the $10 million he is rumoured to have hidden before going to jail. Written and directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four), Capone follows Prohibition-era Chicago’s most ruthless crime boss through a veil of memory into a nightmare of his own making. The film stars Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Inception), Matt Dillon (Crash, The Outsiders), Linda Cardellini (Green Book, Avengers: Endgame), Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks,” “Sex and the City”), Noel Fisher (“Shameless,” “The Red Line”) and Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots).
