An impoverished black ex-serviceman who, having just lost his job and needing to keep up the mortgage payments, accepts a job tracking down a mayoral candidate's missing mistress. As he attempts to find the woman, he is drawn into a web of sex, corruption, blackmail and murder, which alters his moral outlook on life.
