Moondance Alexander lives with her eccentric mother. Usually her summers are uneventful, but during this particular season she discovers a pony named Checkers who has escaped his paddock. Moondance does the right thing in returning Checkers to Dante Longpre, his rightful owner, but she believes that the pony has championship potential and tries to convince Dante of that.
