Gorchakov is a Russian poet who travels through Italy researching the life of a Russian composer. Whilst there, he meets a lunatic who had imprisoned his entire family to save them from the evils of the outside world. This along with Gorchakov’s research subject rekindle the nostalgia he has for his homeland. A deeply personal film, Tarkovsky’s Nostalgia is a testament to his own desperate longing for his home after his self-proclaimed exile.
