The Delinquent
The roaring success of Bruce Lee's contemporary-set martial arts capers encouraged iconic studio Shaw Brothers to bring their signature kung fu filmmaking from historical China to the gritty streets of 1970s Hong Kong. This led to some of the most action-packed thrillers of the era, where ruthless gangs and fearless vigilantes duke it out in the city's perilous urban battlefields! Jointly directed by regular Shaw filmmakers Chang Cheh (One-Armed Swordsman) and Kuei Chih-Hung (Killer Constable), 1973's The Delinquent stars Chung Wang (The Chinese Boxer) as rambunctious young martial artist Shen Chang. His brave refusal to being recruited by the triad gang led by the villainous Boss Lan often lead to street brawls, to the chagrin of his righteous aging father. But his loyalties are torn when he's laid off from his delivery driver job, and Boss Lan's offer becomes more enticing. This gripping thriller offers unflinching depictions of bravery in the face of criminality, courtesy of two of Shaw Brothers' most accomplished filmmakers!
