Sookie's captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives to do his master's bidding during a Fellowship of the Sun lockdown. In Bon Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery at Merlotte's, but Andy proves no help in coming to his defence. Elsewhere, after Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his more single-minded followers.
A wounded Eric plays Sookie for a sucker, to Bill's dismay, and ends up getting inside her head. Jailed by Bud along with a group of Bon Temps revellers, Sam finds a novel way to escape his cell and avoid capture by an increasingly obsessed Maryann. Meanwhile, in Dallas, Eric and the vampires defend their recent actions to Nan Flanagan and are shocked when Godric decides to take the fall for their PR disaster.
Bill meets Russell Edgington, the Vampire King of Mississippi, who wants to use Bill in his plan to obtain more power. In Bill's absence, Jessica seeks Pam's advice to get herself out of a rather sticky situation. Sam spends more time with his birth family, but his zeal isn't welcomed by all of his newfound relatives, while Tara finds unlikely solace in the shifty vampire Franklin Mott.
As Sookie nurtures Eric, Bill gets involved personally in the necromancy crisis. Elsewhere, Jesus and Lafayette head to Mexico to harness a shaman's power.
As Salome's true loyalties are revealed, Sookie embraces her human side, Sam's sense of smell comes in handy and Alcide prepares for a fight.
