The annual funfair comes to Aidensfield, causing much excitement but some ill feeling too. When the proprietor of a nearby caravan site complains about the noise and mess, Nick tells her there is nothing he can do. Then a five-year-old boy goes missing.

Sherlock Holmes is worried by a recurring dream and both Watson and Mrs Hudson have expressed their concern. Meanwhile, Lord Robert St Simon, the most eligible bachelor, is left distraught after his new wife disappears on their wedding day. With Holmes on the case, it turns out that this may not be the first wife of Lord Robert's to disappear. By solving this puzzling mystery, Holmes is eventually able to resolve the riddle of his own dream.
