Clark is in for a shock when he tries to stop thieves from robbing a truckload of kryptonite, which nullifies his powers and makes the crooks just as strong as he is.

Lana's great-uncle shows her a 40-year-old picture of a drifter who looks exactly like Clark Kent, and a medallion allows Clark to see flashbacks of his father Jor-El, engaged in a doomed love affair.

While attempting to stop a robbery, Clark shoots a burst of heat vision that is accidentally reflected into his eyes by a piece of Kryptonite, causing temporary blindness. He soon discovers that his body has developed extremely sensitive hearing to compensate for his vision loss.

Lana is visited by the ghost of a childhood friend and turns to Clark for help, and Lex learns his father is funding krypto-cloning research.
