Cecilia Cheung

After rising to fame early, Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung nearly had her career destroyed by a sex scandal. Raised in Hong Kong and Australia, Cheung had her big career break with a commercial for Lipton Tea that attracted the attention of legendary comic director-actor Stephen Chow. He cast her in his 1999 blockbuster "The King Of Comedy," but Cheung's ascent to fame was marred when her gangster father's dispute with rivals led to death threats against her. That same year, Cheung also released her first musical album, beginning a career in Cantonese pop that would last until 2005. In 2006, at the height of her film and musical fame, she married fellow actor Nicholas Tse and seemed to retire from professional life altogether. Two years later, she was dragged back into the spotlight when photographs entertainer Edison Chen had taken of the two in the bedroom leaked into the spotlight. The resulting scandal temporarily ended Chen's career and affected many of the actresses whose compromising photographs ended up on the internet. In 2011, Cheung divorced her husband and returned to the screen as a romantic lead in the sixth installment of the popular "All's Well, End's Well" romantic comedy franchise, and has continued working steadily since then.
