Dr Ross suspects a woman is abusing her young son, Dr Lewis must console a cancer patient and Dr Benton is forced to perform a delicate operation.

Ross treats a baby for an overdose; Carter makes a surgical error; Hathaway hauls in a stroke victim; Boulet gives Benton a decision; Lewis and Weaver clash.

Carter, Abby and other hospital personnel are quarantined as the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention probe a mysterious and deadly outbreak, and Dr Corday tries to adapt to her medical practice in England.

With an influx of patients, Dr Carter finds himself stuck at the hospital, and Dr Benton learns more than he'd like about his son's accident.

Dr Lewis' return to County General is anything but peaceful, Dr Carter's grandmother is brought into the hospital, Dr Corday must adjust to life with Dr Greene's daughter, and Dr Benton's son can't be found.

Chaos takes over the emergency room when another hospital is shut down, overloading County General with patients. Corday makes an emotional return for the first time since her husband's death and clashes with the overstressed Weaver.
