Jackie Nichols flees to Japan after her fiancé dies in a car accident, in the hope of restarting her life. After meeting a charming drug mule, she gets involved in smuggling, and gets caught, and sentenced to several years in prison.

Billy Hayes was the subject of the 1978 film 'Midnight Express', which detailed his arrest for drug smuggling in Turkey, after which he subsequently broke out of prison. He describes how he truly escaped from a Turkish prison.
