Emma's mother Angela unexpectedly returns and wants to see her daughter. Ben is reluctant to comply, but when Angela claims she can help to get Emma into a good pre-school, Ben relents and asks Riley to keep an eye on them.

Summer Friday: Liza reads Colin's novel and thinks they should pursue it. Liza and Kelsey get EW to do a story on Empirical with Colin as the featured author but this backfires. Meanwhile, Josh is disappointed with his and Liza's sex life but she let him give her a tattoo while on advice from her therapist, Diana talks to a man named Richard which causes conflict later.
