Monk travels to New York to investigate the connection between his wife's murder and Warrick Tennyson, whose name was given to Monk by Dale the Whale. While checking into their hotel, mayhem breaks out and three people are killed. Monk agrees to help with the triple-murder investigation.

The team investigates a series of murders where the bodies have been posed. An artist becomes a suspect when the CSIs learn he has his models pose as dead bodies for his pictures. Plus, Ecklie hires a new CSI and a counsellor comes in to help everyone deal with Warrick's death.
