Rebus is asked by his boss to head off a gangland war between two of Edinburgh's notorious gangsters, and soon discovers evidence of an illegal operation to run prostitutes out of Bosnia and into Scotland. When Rebus's daughter is the victim of a hit-and-run accident, the finger points to one of Rebus's main suspects.
