Monk travels to New York to investigate the connection between his wife's murder and Warrick Tennyson, whose name was given to Monk by Dale the Whale. While checking into their hotel, mayhem breaks out and three people are killed. Monk agrees to help with the triple-murder investigation.

Initial evidence suggests that a Middle Eastern doctor who vanished from a Manhattan hospital after getting two big disappointments on the same day had ties to a terrorist organisation.

Stark is on the case of a serial killer whose sixth victim is rushed to hospital, barely surviving her attack. Stark has a suspect in his sights, but needs to convince the terrified victim to testify in court. Meanwhile, the case comes home to haunt Stark when the suspect appears in his house, putting his daughter's life in danger.
