In a `Wizard of Oz' homage, JD is trying to go home, Turk searches for a heart donor and Carla worries that she doesn't have the courage to become a parent.

JD's ego gets in the way of learning when Elliot, his Co-Chief Resident, continually outperforms him with their patients.

Chaos ensues when the residents find themselves in charge of the hospital during a night shift, and a televised car chase comes to an end with the car crashing in the hospital car park.

A new patient at the hospital wakes up and sees everything happening around her as a musical, Carla can't decide whether to return to work, and Elliot must find a way to tell JD he can't move into her new house with her.

Dr Cox starts drinking after his decisions result in the death of three of his patients. The staff try to cover for him at the hospital and everyone tries to convince him of what an inspiration he is. Meanwhile, Turk starts his new rotation with orthopaedic surgery, but isn't so fond of his attending doctor's touchy-feely methods.

JD plans a date with Dr Kim Briggs on their night off, but Elliot keeps getting in their way. Meanwhile, Elliot throws a baby shower for Carla, while Perry and Jordan hand over all of Jack's stuff.
