A four-member syndicate owns a racehorse that two of them are desperate to sell and two of them are determined to keep. When one of them is murdered, Barnaby is on the case.

Zola Zbzewski's plastic surgeon is found shot to death in his home, and she claims she knows nothing about it. The fact he would have ruined the launch of her new book gives her no motive at all! But when Zola turns up dead in Maddy's wardrobe, things start to look suspicious...
