Jane contemplates his future at the California Bureau of Investigation in the light of his encounter with Red John. Meanwhile, agents are called upon to investigate the kidnapping of a prominent lawyer, but Jane is uncharacteristically unwilling to help.

When Jerry is booked to appear on `The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' he takes George with him to Los Angeles to search for Kramer, who vanished in a huff months earlier only to pop up inexplicably on TV in an episode of `Murphy Brown'. George and Jerry are unaware that their wayward friend is in trouble as a victim of mistaken identity. Meanwhile, George bothers every celebrity he encounters.

When Kramer invites himself over once too often, Jerry demands he return the spare set of keys Jerry loaned to him, which virtually ends their open-door friendship. Distraught and overwrought, Kramer heads west to California.

Lydia and her new partner, Ray Suarez (series star CLIFTON COLLINS, JR.), arrive in Compton, where a young USC student was murdered. Detectives Kenny "No Gun" (recurring guest star PATRICK FISCHLER) and Andy Williams (recurring guest star LEX MEDLIN) canvass the neighborhood while Nate and Sammy investigate a house nearby where a party took place the night before. John and Ben head to Indian Wells for the funeral of a cop that proves to be very personal for John. They also stop at a halfway house for cops to see how Dewey (recurring guest star C. THOMAS HOWELL) is doing. And Lydia decides to talk to her mother (recurring guest star L. SCOTT CALDWELL) about something that has been festering between them for years.

Mitch and Matt struggle to find safety after their fishing accident, and stumble into a village of Hawaiian islanders. Mitch and Matt are well liked in the village by all but one of the inhabitants.
