Sam Lloyd

Sam Lloyd is a character actor working in television and film. Born in Weston, Vermont, Lloyd is best known for his role as lawyer Ted Buckland on the long-running hospital comedy "Scrubs"; he's also the nephew of well-known actor Christopher Lloyd. Sam got his start in 1988 and '89, as a balloon salesman on two episodes of the goofy sitcom "Night Court." In 1990, he joined the ensemble cast of the short-lived, Paul Haggis-created comedy, "City" alongside Valerie Harper. In 1995, he joined the ensemble of another single-season comedy series, "Double Rush," appearing with David Arquette and Adam Goldberg for all 12 episodes. Lloyd also peppered his '90s resume with recurring appearances on such big-name sitcoms as "Seinfeld," "Mad About You," and "3rd Rock from the Sun," and began appearing on the big screen as well, making cameos in the comedies "Flubber" with Robin Williams in 1997, and "Galaxy Quest" in 1999. In 2001, Lloyd landed what has become his career role, as Ted Buckland, the not-particularly-competent lawyer for Sacred Heart Hospital, on "Scrubs," where he appeared on 95 episodes, until 2009. Throughout this run, Lloyd was in several films-a range of lesser-known comedies and shorts-and also made eight recurring appearances as Dr. Albert Golfine on the hit comedic drama "Desperate Housewives" in 2004 and '05. Sam Lloyd died on May 1, 2020 at the age of 56.
