In the series premiere, we are introduced to Martin Bohm, a widower and single father who is haunted by an inability to connect to his emotionally challenged 11-year-old son Jake.

Surprises are sparked when Martin stumbles upon a homeless man with a familiar knack for numbers. Elsewhere, Teller pays Jake a visit.

Even though Martin knows he is to refrain from visiting Jake at the care facility, the new-found glimmer of hope that Jake is actually communicating through his repetitive numbers draws Martin to his son.

When Martin sets out to find Teller's secret workshop, he ends up helping another professor. Meanwhile, Jake receives an unexpected visitor.

The time for Jake's custody hearing nears, and Martin struggles with agreeing to Abigail's plan of action.
