Born in the Netherlands, Sylvia Hoeks began her career as a professional model, travelling throughout Europe during her teenage years. When she returned, Hoeks enrolled in the Maastricht Theater Academy. After graduation, she appeared in a number of Dutch TV series and films, first gaining acclaim for her supporting role in the film "Duska" (2007), which earned her the Dutch equivalent of a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. She continued to work in Dutch and European cinema, finally breaking through to the English-language market in 2016, when she had a recurring role on the series "Berlin Station" (Epix, 2016-). The next year was Hoeks' breakthrough internationally, when she played the replicant Luv in the high-profile film "Blade Runner 2049" (2017).
