DS Sean Stone has a difficult manner which tends to alienate all those who work with him, but his unorthodox methods could hold the key to finding a missing 16-year-old girl called Taylor. In order to examine a spate of teenage suicides, he is teamed up with missing persons analyst Ruth Hattersley. In spite of his initial misgivings, they learn to work together and Sean believes they have discovered a serial killer who is preying on vulnerable young people.

As the net closes in on the killer, the search for Taylor takes an unexpected turn. Sean is forced to question his methods - and faces a shocking surprise about the killer's identity.

When Sean uncovers inconsistencies in Vance’s confession, he calls into question his guilt. And when another body turns up, he realises that Vance is just another victim, and the real killer is still on the loose.
