Africa's Wild Year

In Southern Africa, spring starts in early September and the natural world stirs into life. Days begin to lengthen, temperatures rise, and animals and plants combine in an orchestrated effort to reproduce, give birth, and raise their young.

Summer in Africa is a season of extremes, it separates the weak from the strong. It tests the survival instincts of cheetahs, lions, geckos, turtles and many more species as they search for food and water in the extreme heat of summer.

Autumn in Africa brings opportunities. Cape Fur seals, Samango monkeys, chameleons, impala, and more respond to the season. Autumn triggers changes in the lives of many animals. Rare creatures reveal themselves and predators gather to take advantage.

Winter in Southern Africa brings drought, ice, and storms that leave cheetahs, seals, vultures, and meerkats competing with the weather, the environment, and each other whilst triggering a burst of life with the ending of the dry season.
