At North Boulder Wellness Center, the De Noue family struggles to meet the state's stringent guidelines after putting their savings into their first growhouse and dispensary. Sergeant Jim Gerhardt of the North Metro Drug Task Force uncovers the illicit effects of Colorado's recent marijuana boom.
Pot entrepreneur Josh Stanley faces a huge challenge in persuading Colorado to finance scientific R and D into cannabis as medicine, and the Denver Police Department conducts undercover Craigslist operations to try to keep a lid on the expanding black market in marijuana. And then there's Brittany Wagoner, Miss High Times 2010, who is out to prove that she's more than just a pretty face in what she sees as the predominantly male world of marijuana.
Members of the De Noue family put their resources toward turning their failing business around, and 64-year-old cancer patient Anne Marie finds herself in the middle of her town's fight to ban her green medicine.
While people like pink-mohawked cancer patient Josh Belt use medical marijuana to deal with their health problems, cannabis also proves controversial as an upcoming vote threatens to shut down the only dispensary in the town of Castle Rock, Colorado, and North Boulder Wellness Center's manager Alex Douglas, fed up with his employers, decides to quit and move to Aspen.
Dispensary owner Dawn Clifford and her husband, John, face the possibility of their business being shut down should Fort Collins citizens approve Proposition 300, an ordinance that would close all marijuana dispensaries in the city. Meanwhile, Sgt. Jim Gerhardt is committed to keeping illegal drugs out of the hands of kids. He searches a suburban house, where he discovers marijuana is growing within reach of children, who have picked leaves and taken them to school.
Former mayor and anti-dispensary crusader Ray Martinez protests in the streets and puts up a billboard in the center of town. Josh Stanley's shop is robbed by a pipe-wielding perpetrator who clubs an employee and steals much of the weed inventory (an incident that's caught on tape). And Sgt. Jim Gerhard receives a call about a man illegally growing marijuana in his backyard.
