Volcanoes, earthquakes and violent storms constantly pose a serious threat to people and property around the world so scientists are always trying to come up with better ways of predicting when and where the natural disasters may occur. This three-part show investigates the possibility that the three may be related to one another by following scientists as they travel to some of the most extreme and dangerous places on the planet in an attempt to protect people from Mother Nature. Among the potential disasters discussed are a `megathrust' earthquake in America's Pacific Northwest and a megaquake that causes a 30-foot-high tsunami to hit Japan.
