Kaye Newman's carefully ordered life is disrupted when her sister Ruby and her boyfriend Michael come crashing back into it. Ruby has bust Michael out of a high-security medical facility, and they are ready to race themselves free - in an illegal street race set-up by elusive tech-billionaire Max Larssen. This is the only escape available from a world in the grips of a deadly virus and the ensuing state-imposed curfew.
As the race begins, the Donahues have to come to terms with a major logistical and emotional setback. With Roman's guidance they successfully dodge the initial obstacles of the race, although in doing so they realise just how mortally dangerous the night is going be.
Now the remaining racers have made it across the river, they have to navigate their way out of London, going over, under or through the huge wall which encases and protects the city. Criminal gangster The General and his pregnant girlfriend Faith plan to sneak their car out in the back of a lorry. Will The General be able to get his temper in check and keep his cool for long enough?
The distance between Kaye and Michael becomes apparent in the Ambulance, as they sit on opposite sides of the ultimate question: should Michael escape to the island or face up to the fact that he might present a cure to the virus?
The Donahues are vying for position on a narrow country road with the Tow Truck, driven by Lou Collins and her daughter Hanmei, when WHAM - it crashes into a creature - and BAM - the Donahues crash into it.
The Ambulance, the Hot Hatch and the Donahues are all chasing after an impenetrable Brookeheath prison truck, containing an important piece of cargo. Who will make it out unscathed?
