Emma

Sandy Welch's dramatisation of Jane Austen's novel, first published in 1815, stars Romola Garai as the independent Emma Woodhouse, who tries to pair up her friends and acquaintances.

Gossip is rife with the arrival of Jane Fairfax and a piano she was given by a mystery admirer, while Emma becomes the subject of Mr Elton's unwanted attention at the Christmas party.

Frank and Emma plan a ball, and she begins to wonder whether she has feelings for him, before her spirits are lifted when Mr Knightley proposes a refreshing day trip to Box Hill.

When Frank's aunt dies, the Westons expect him to propose to Emma, but his actions start a chain of events that shocks her, resulting in the realisation of a truth she had dismissed.
