The trials and tribulations of a teenager named Chris growing up in Brooklyn during the 1980s, as he tries to navigate his family, his friends and his adolescent life.

On his first day at school, Chris squares off against a bully, but also makes a new friend. Meanwhile, Chris' dad Julius, a true penny pincher, questions how his wife Rochelle takes care of the family's tight finances.

Everybody Hates Keisha
Rochelle hires neighbour Keisha to tutor Drew, and Chris senses a chance to impress the girl next door - but his plans soon go awry.
EPISODE 3
Everybody Hates Basketball
Chris faces a dilemma when he's recruited to the school basketball team but doesn't know how to play. Rochelle suspects a new tenant in the building.
EPISODE 4
Everybody Hates Sausage
School principal Dr Raymond steps in as the fight between Chris and school bully Joey Caruso escalates. Meanwhile, when Rochelle quits her job and money gets tight, Julius makes a deal on a crate of sausages, but Tonya refuses to eat any. Later, Drew is inspired to take up karate after watching a Kung Fu movie.
EPISODE 5
Everybody Hates Fat Mike
Chris lets a neighbourhood kid ride his bike, despite Julius's warnings, and the kid rides off with it. Meanwhile, when Julius's co-workers go on strike, he takes up some of the housework, much to Rochelle's annoyance.
EPISODE 6
Everybody Hates Halloween
Chris heads to a party in order to try and impress a girl - and dresses up as Prince to make an impression!
