As a child, the Australia that won Miriam's heart was a sunny optimistic place, where there was opportunity for everyone to work hard, succeed and live. But now Miriam wants to know if there really is such a thing as the Australian Dream today.
On the second leg of her journey, Miriam is intrigued by the Australian concept of mateship and how Australia is the only country in the world to enshrine this in its culture. Miriam's first stop is a roadhouse south of Alice Springs, where she meets Spud and his mates. She discovers she has a lot to learn about the concept that she considers very masculine.
On the final part of her journey, Miriam visits Gulf of Carpentaria to see where the wealth of the Lucky Country comes from. At the McArthur River Mine, Miriam is taken aback by the enormity and scale of this operation.
