Archie Macdonald learns he's inherited a beautiful, rundown Scottish castle. However, there's a catch. Archie must decide whether to stay in London, where he has just opened a fashionable new fish restaurant with his girlfriend, or take responsibility for the gorgeous but decaying Glenbogle estate.

Archie is about to return to London when a banker shows up threatening foreclosure. Archie rallies the members of his household to soften the banker's hard heart.

Archie's long-suffering girlfriend and business partner, Justine, arrives from London and is not too keen on his new role as laird of Glenbogle - or the developing closeness between Archie and local school teacher Katrina.

A visit to Glenbogle by a family history expert leads to the discovery of a secret love diary in the attic. Duncan thinks he might have become heir to a fortune - and hopes that Lexie will now see him in a whole new light.

Archie's wayward sister turns up with her new boyfriend, a New Age guru intent on converting Glenbogle into a healing centre.

Archie must take part in a traditional boat race against a neighbour, the wily landowner Kilwillie. Katrina has her own reasons for upsetting the odds in the race, as Kilwillie is standing against her in the local election.
