The Forsytes

Ten years after Jolyon's marriage to high society favourite, Frances, the Forsytes prepare to celebrate daughter June's 18th birthday and entrance into society. Ambitious Frances is determined to secure her an advantageous marriage.

Frances is reeling from a discovery. Irene contends with her new reality of destitution. The Forsytes prepare for a night at the opera. June meets rebellious architect Philip Bosinney. Jolyon visits Louisa. Soames faces his own heartache.

Jolyon recalls his affair with Louisa but fails to reassure June. At Forsyte and Co, James's scheme to oust Jolyon backfires, and Soames solidifies his engagement to Irene with a ring.

Jolyon assures Frances and June he has cut ties with Louisa. Frances resumes her efforts to secure Horatio for June. In Paris, Soames realises he doesn't fit in with Irene's friends.

At Forsyte & Co., the climbing Ceylon Gold share price casts doubt on Jolyon's cautious approach. And disaster strikes at the Ceylon Gold mine and the share price plummets. June pays a visit to Louisa.

Frances struggles to hold it together, fearing she is a source of gossip following Jolyon's departure. Irene admits to mourning the life she was promised, while Jolyon and Soames argue.
