Year 2417. Valerian and Laureline are the only two Earthlings in the entire galaxy. The brilliant but nutty Doctor Zessel has a new invention, a machine called "The Swapper" capable of switching minds with bodies. And while our two heroes are asleep, Doctor Zessel decides to test his new invention on them.

While attending an auction of rare and unusual objects, Valerian and Laureline are mysteriously kidnapped and find themselves in what looks like the Wild West.
A skilled fighter in both real and virtual worlds, Valerian wins first prize in a holographic robot fighting game. He wins a magnificent all-expenses-paid stay for two in a sumptuous hotel on the wonderful planet Farniza.
