Koharu is a single mother raising two children since her husband died in an accident. She tries to apply for public assistance at the welfare office.

Koharu's neighbour calls the child guidance centre after noticing that Koharu's kids spend time alone every night. Koharu decides to leave her kids with Yuki, who lives in the countryside, for a while.

Koharu doesn't know how to react to Shiori's familial affection. Kentaro offers to take care of Nozomi and Riku while Koharu is at work.

Koharu is touched by Riku's sensitive nature and behaviour although he is a boy of few words. Meanwhile, Shiori reveals a very important secret relating to Shin's death.

After a thorough examination, Koharu is diagnosed with aplastic anaemia. In the meantime, a present arrives at Koharu's house from her mother.

Hiding her worsening illness, Koharu convinces Sachi to let her family move in. While settling in, she is given a scarf her late husband allegedly left at the house years ago.
