Whilst searching for treasure on the River Niger, Dirk Pitt thwarts the attempted assassination of a beautiful UN scientist investigating a disease that is driving thousands of North Africans to death. When it is discovered that an African dictator's nuclear waste disposal plant is threatening the planet's ecosystem, it's up to Dirk Pitt to find the source of the pollution and shut down the operation.
