Caroline and Max take side jobs as baristas in order to learn how to use the cappuccino maker they bought for their cupcake business.

On her first day at pastry school, Max is intrigued and distracted by irreverent class clown Deke. Meanwhile, Caroline is disappointed with the routine nature of her new job in the school's office, which she has taken to pay for Max's tuition fees.

Deke takes Max back to his place after a great first date, but she finds that his living arrangements are not at all what she was expecting.

Caroline encourages Max to apply for a course at the Manhattan School of Pastry when she finds a brochure for the college hidden in her friend's bedroom.

Max and Deke grow closer while studying together at the pastry school, although Caroline starts to find his constant presence irritating. Meanwhile, Caroline is enjoying her flirtation with Chef Nicholas.
