When Rachel finds out that Ross is bringing a date to Joey's opening night, she finds one of her own. Ross tries to convince Rachel that hers is mentally unbalanced. Meanwhile, Joey's play gets terrible reviews, but his co-star provides some comfort.

Phoebe is upset when her 18-year-old half-brother, Frank Jr, wants to marry his attractive home economics teacher, who is more than 25 years older than him. Elsewhere, Monica receives a tip from an admirer worth a small fortune, and a hypnosis tape intended to assist Chandler give up smoking has a rather strange effect on him.

Joey gets in trouble for giving female customers free food at Central Perk, and after her father cuts her off, Rachel's sister Jill comes to town. Rachel talks Jill into asking Ross out, and later, Ross and Jill return to his apartment. As he closes the drapes, Rachel looks on from Monica and Chandler's apartment.
