A disillusioned young couple in 50s South Dakota go on a killing spree, hiding out in the area's badlands as the law closes in. An angry young refuse collector who feels spurned by society kills his dreamy, lovestruck teenage girlfriend's father when he forbids him from seeing her. The pair then take off on a violent journey towards infamy. Based on a series of real-life murders in Nebraska in 1958.
