The crafty villain buys up the town's prime sites for a pittance, sends the hapless lawman off on a wild-goose chase and starts a gold rush by planting gold in a local stream. Growing rich from the businesses he has opened to cater for the prospectors, the ruthless entrepreneur begins to home in on the Mountie's love interest.
