War historians tell the story of 22 ordinary Australians who were rewarded for their courage and sacrifice with the Victoria Cross, the most honoured decoration for the Australian Defence Force. From as far back as the Indian Mutiny of 1857, only 96 Australian soldiers have received this honour.
