Ismael's Ghosts

Ismaël Vuillard (Mathieu Amalric, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) makes films. Along with Henri Bloom (László Szabó, The Unbearable Lightness of Being), his master and father-in-law, he still mourns the death of Carlotta (Marion Cotillard, Inception) from twenty years ago. Carlotta returns from the dead but Ismael has rebuilt his life with Sylvia (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antichrist) and is working on his next feature film, inspired by his brother. As Ismael's trials and tribulations unfurl, so too do those of his film's protagonist: the idle, funny and reckless diplomat, Ivan Dédalus (Louis Garrel, Le Redoutable).
